On the 29th January 2008, the Kurdistan Regional Government Nordic Representation hosted its first ever Kurdish Gala inOslo, Norway at the Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel. The Kurdish Gala is part of a concept to recognize the many Kurdish talents living in the Nordic countries as well as showing appreciation to the numerous friends of the Kurds that have shown their support throughout the years.
One of the main goals of Ministry of Sport and Youth is to stimulate the youth in the Kurdistan Region to take an active part in the civil society and sport community.
Ladies and Gentlemen,As Minister of Sports and Youth, it gives me great pleasure to stand here in front of you today and inaugurate the first ever sports festival to take place in the Kurdistan Region. We are proud that so many of you have come to share this historic event with us.
Action on violence against women in the Iraqi region of Kurdistan

Sweden’s Embassy to Iraq participated in a manifestation for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women held in the capital of the Iraqi region of Kurdistan, Erbil. Approximately 500 guests attended the ceremony and hosts of the evening were Swedish-Kurdish actors Özz Nujen and Nisti Sterk.
Mr Taha Barwary, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Sports and Youth recently ended a visit to Germany where he met with senior governmental officials, members of parliament and representatives of German sports and youth associations.
